The regional center "Rosatom Central and Southern Africa" presented innovative technological solutions at the African Energy Indaba 2026. The event took place from March 3 to 5 in Cape Town, South Africa.
Ryan Collyer, CEO of the regional center, spoke about the great potential of floating power unit technology. This is a small power plant located on a non-self-propelled vessel. It is designed to provide energy to remote areas and enterprises.
The Akademik Lomonosov floating nuclear combined heat and power plant, operated by Rosatom, provides electricity to a remote region of the Russian Far North and is the world's only operating floating nuclear power plant.
The head of the regional center also spoke about the construction of modern high-capacity NPPs. Among the foreign projects of the state corporation, the Egyptian El-Dabaa station deserves attention. This is the first NPP in Africa, which is being built by Rosatom on the Black Continent.
The regional center "Rosatom Central and Southern Africa" was opened in 2012. The structure is responsible for promoting Russian technologies on the African continent. On the eve of the Africa Energy Indaba 2026 forum, Rosatom and the South African Nuclear Energy Corporation Necsa signed a memorandum of understanding.
