Specialists from the Collective Use Center "Siberian Ring Photon Source" (SKIF) have developed new wear-resistant coatings for mining equipment parts. Their service life will increase by four times.
Parts with the new coating are already undergoing testing at three mining and metallurgical plants in Russia.
The new gradient coating based on iron, tungsten, and molybdenum with ceramics increases the tensile strength by 25–30% and preserves the material's plasticity.
The use of new technologies has reduced the wear rate of crushing teeth by four times compared to standard parts.
Using synchrotron radiation, scientists have shown that the material's strength is maintained up to 1300 °C, although in operation the surface of the teeth heats up to 400–500 °C, explained Alexander Malikov, a leading researcher at ITPM SB RAS.
