Rosatom intends to put four foreign power units into operation in 2026, said Alexey Likhachev, Director General of the state corporation, at the industry "Information Day" on March 12.
The launch of the first unit of the Akkuyu NPP in Turkey is considered key. According to Likhachev, the unit must be launched by December.
Rosenergoatom and Titan-2 specialists were additionally involved in the Akkuyu Nuclear team. The construction became the most sanction-vulnerable foreign project of the state corporation: Siemens refused to supply already paid equipment, $2 billion was frozen. Import substitution was carried out "on the fly."
In addition to Turkey, the plans for 2026 include the launch of the first unit of the Rooppur NPP in Bangladesh, the physical launch of which is scheduled for the first half of Www1, as well as the seventh unit of the Tianwan NPP and the third unit of the Xudapu NPP in China. Both Chinese units are being built according to the VVER-1200 project.
Domestically, Rosatom has entered nine construction sites out of the 18 provided for by the general scheme. About 20 power units of large, medium and small capacity are being built there. The Primorskaya and Kola NPPs are under special control.
Akkuyu NPP is the first nuclear power plant in Turkey, built according to the Build-Own-Operate model. The project includes four VVER generation 3+ power units with a capacity of 1200 MW each. Interfax Russia Rooppur NPP in Bangladesh is also designed for two power units with a total capacity of 2400 MW - there is no nuclear generation in the energy-deficient country yet. Yakovlev
All four facilities have a history of postponements: Akkuyu has shifted to the right due to sanctions, Rooppur is lagging behind the original 2024 plan by at least two years. If all launches take place on time, 2026 will be a record year in terms of the number of simultaneously commissioned foreign units in the history of the state corporation - and critical for maintaining the order portfolio at $206 billion.
