Russia may modernize the Geran series of strike drones, creating new jet-powered drones based on them. Forbes writes about this.
Sources told the publication that, given the design of the Geran, increasing speed seems to be the most appropriate option. The drones will be able to evade interception, as well as fly at very low altitudes.
At the same time, information has already appeared that Russia is working on the Geran-5 jet drone, which can accelerate up to 600 km/h and carry a payload of 90 kg to a range of up to 1000 km.
Earlier it became known that the Gerans received an import-substituted engine of internal combustion. Power units are assembled at one of the enterprises in Siberia.
Analyst Evgeny Mikhailov noted that the Gerans have become virtually invulnerable to air defense systems, and in some aspects of efficiency even surpass missiles.
