Express-AT1 spacecraft declared irretrievably lost

The satellite ceased operation due to an off-nominal situation

On March fourth, an off-nominal situation occurred aboard the Express-AT1 satellite, leading to the immediate shutdown of the spacecraft. According to the operator, specialists from GP Kosmicheskaya Svyaz and the manufacturer, AO Reshetnev, undertook a set of measures to restore the platform's operability, but these actions produced no result. The company stated that the satellite is technically beyond recovery and may be considered lost.

At present, engineers are analyzing telemetry to determine the exact cause of the failure. In parallel, solutions are being worked out to minimize the consequences for satellite television users. Some subscribers will be able to resume receiving the signal within the next few days after reconfiguring their equipment to another orbital position. The remaining viewers will be provided access to broadcasting within a month as resources are redistributed from other spacecraft in the constellation.

To fully replace the lost capacity, Kosmicheskaya Svyaz has announced a tender for the creation of a new satellite. The spacecraft, under the working name Express-AT3, is expected to fully reproduce its predecessor's coverage area and enter orbit by the end of 2030. Funding for the project, as the company clarified, will be provided from the enterprise's own funds.
