In the southern areas of Lebanon, a Kornet anti-tank guided missile system crew from a Hezbollah unit destroyed an Israeli Merkava Mk.4 main battle tank. The strike was carried out with a 9M133M-2 missile from a distance of about 7,750 meters in one of the southern areas of Lebanon, the Telegram channel "Russkoe oruzhie" reports.
The missile's speed along its trajectory reaches 310 m/s, and its armor penetration is about 1,300 mm behind explosive reactive armor. This was more than enough to hit one of the most protected vehicles in the Israeli army.
Earlier, www1.ru reported that today the Kornet is increasingly used not for its intended purpose. The system has changed specialization: instead of shaped-charge warheads, thermobaric ones are used against fortifications, concrete, and manpower. In addition, the Kornet operates successfully against aerial targets, including helicopters and heavy drones, thanks to non-contact sensors.
Recall that the basic version of the Kornet missile penetrates up to 1,000 mm of armor behind explosive reactive armor. Guidance is carried out via a laser beam.
