Sovereignty in the Battery Industry: Electrolyte Production for Batteries Launched at Rosatom

Eight grades of electrolyte will be produced at the new industrial site in Moscow

The fuel division of the state corporation Rosatom (the company TVEL) announced the launch of electrolyte production for storage batteries. This was reported by the state corporation's press service.

Most manufacturers of lithium-ion batteries buy ready-made electrolyte rather than producing it themselves. The creation at Rosatom of its own production of components for battery cells is another step toward strengthening national technological sovereignty in the strategically important battery industry.

Production was set up at the Rosatom Khimiya Scientific and Technical Center in Moscow. The capacity of the pilot facility now makes it possible to produce 6 tonnes of electrolyte per year. The production volume is planned to be increased to 10 tonnes.

The electrolytes are intended for sodium-ion and potassium-ion batteries. They ensure stable operation at temperatures down to -40°C and also improve service life and the efficiency of charge-discharge cycles.

Earlier, www1.ru reported that a new battery manufacturing plant and a gigafactory will be created in Moscow.
