On February 12 at 14:00 local time (05:00 Moscow time), in the waters of Vestnik Bay in Kamchatka Krai, the passenger vessel "Gipanis" stopped due to a technical malfunction of the power plant. The vessel, operating on a voyage in the area of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, required emergency towing to its destination port.
As reported by the press service of the Far Eastern Transport Prosecutor's Office, no threat to the life or health of the passengers and crew has been recorded. The shipowner promptly began arranging for the vessel to be towed to the port of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky by emergency rescue services.
The Kamchatka Transport Prosecutor's Office has taken the incident under special control. At the same time, the Sakhalin Transport Prosecutor's Office initiated an unscheduled inspection of the shipowning company registered in Sakhalin Oblast. During the inspection, a legal assessment will be made of compliance with maritime safety legislation requirements, including the vessel's technical condition, the quality of pre-voyage maintenance, and the crew's readiness for putting to sea.
