Mass production of unique medical implants has begun in Togliatti. These implants do not require surgical removal, as they dissolve independently in the patient's body without the need for a repeat operation. The first Russian mass production of bioresorbable products made from a special magnesium alloy under the MgSorb brand has been launched at the site of the Togliatti State University Technopark.
The implants are designed for traumatology and maxillofacial surgery. The production of 60 standard sizes of products, including screws and spokes, has been mastered, TSU reported. By April 2026, it is planned to manufacture the first large batch of 2,000 units for warehouse stock in Russian hospitals, which will reduce the waiting time for operations for patients.
The MgSorb alloy is biocompatible with the human body, regenerates bone tissue and has an antimicrobial effect. This is a completely domestic development created to replace imported analogues. Clinical trials have been successfully conducted at the N.N. Burdenko Main Military Clinical Hospital.
In 2026, the company plans to produce 18,000 implants, with a further increase in volume to 30,000 per year. Scientists are also developing MgSorb plate implants for complex operations on the hand and foot.
