A new Roscosmos cosmonaut selection has begun

Applicants must be no older than 35 and have no tattoos

Dmitry Bakanov, head of the state corporation "Roscosmos," announced the start of an open competition for cosmonaut selection. The review of applicants will be carried out by the Cosmonaut Training Center jointly with representatives of the rocket and space corporation "Energiya" and the Institute of Biomedical Problems of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Candidates must be no older than 35 as of December 31, 2025, and have a higher education degree in the exact, natural, or medical sciences. The average diploma grade must be no lower than 4, and work experience in the specialty must be at least three years.

During the selection process, participants will be assessed on their ability to master space technology, their knowledge of physics and mathematics, as well as proficiency in one of the European languages (English, Italian, Spanish, German, or French) at the level of a non-specialized university. Candidates will undergo tests in written and oral literacy, basic knowledge of the history of cosmonautics, and world culture.

The physical condition of those participating in the selection also plays an important role: a future cosmonaut must not have chronic diseases and must be in good physical shape. The maximum height is 190 cm, weight is 90 kg, and the minimum requirements are 150 cm and 50 kg. Shoe size must not exceed 46.

The selection will take place in two stages. At the first stage, candidates must submit the required documents. After they are reviewed, specialists will decide on admission to the next stage, which will be held in person.

Candidates with tattoos are excluded from further selection, with the exception of small marks indicating blood type or a letter measuring up to three centimeters. In the event of successfully passing the selection, small tattoos will also have to be removed.
