No more than two weeks at a time: scientists reported how long cosmonauts will be able to work on the surface of the Moon

The total duration of a lunar expedition will be about 25 days

The duration of the first lunar expeditions as part of the crewed exploration and development of the Moon may amount to about 25 days, while cosmonauts will be able to spend no more than two weeks directly on its surface. This follows from scientific work by the Yu. A. Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center.

The assumptions about the duration of the missions were made by Dmitry Temartsev, deputy head of a department at the Cosmonaut Training Center, and Vladimir Dmitriev, head of the center's scientific and methodological laboratory. Their work was included in a collected volume presented at a thematic session of the Korolev Academic Readings on Cosmonautics.

The scientists clarified that the stay of cosmonauts on the surface of the Moon will not exceed 14 days. This period will include scientific research, movement of the crew and cargo, as well as deployment of the lunar base and daily life in the habitable module.

For lunar expeditions, two-launch and four-launch flight schemes of the crewed spacecraft (PTK) to the Moon are proposed, using a super-heavy-class launch vehicle and the Angara A5V. In November 2023, the draft roadmap for the exploration of the Moon, presented by the Russian Federation's general designer for crewed space systems, Vladimir Solovyov, noted that the first landing of Russian cosmonauts on the Moon is planned for 2031-2040.

Earlier, www1.ru reported that the Russian lunar spacecraft will receive a special space toilet.
