Russian combat helicopters have begun to receive new guided missiles with powerful warheads capable of destroying targets at long ranges. We are talking about Vikhr anti-tank guided missiles (ATGMs).
An important feature of the new ammunition is a thermobaric warhead instead of a cumulative one. As a result, the effectiveness of hitting such well-protected targets as long-term firing points made of concrete is increased.
The maximum range of the Vikhr missiles has reached 15 km. This makes Russian helicopters invulnerable to man-portable air defense systems (MANPADS). The range of the previous Vikhr-1 missiles was 10 km.
The Aerospace Forces (VKS) are armed with Mi-28N and Ka-52 helicopters. They are armed with air-to-surface and air-to-air missile systems, 30-mm automatic rapid-fire cannons and modern sighting systems.
