A weak magnetic storm occurred on Earth on Friday night, TASS reports, citing the Institute of Applied Geophysics (IPG). The magnetic field disturbance was recorded between 00:00 and 03:00 Moscow time.
According to the IPG, the degree of magnetic field disturbance reached level G1 on a five-point scale, where G5 means "extremely strong" disturbance, and G1 means "weak." The storm was short-lived, and now the geomagnetic field remains in a slightly disturbed state.
Specialists from the Solar Astronomy Laboratory of the IKI RAS and the Institute of Solar-Terrestrial Physics SB RAS previously warned about possible solar flares and magnetic storms in the coming days.
Weak disturbances of the magnetosphere will persist on January 23 until 15–16 hours. There is a possibility of recurrence of weak magnetic storms.
For most people, such events do not pose a threat, but they can have a slight impact on the well-being of people sensitive to geomagnetic changes and on the operation of some satellite systems.
