The Atom electric vehicle will receive a driver condition monitoring system using a "smart" video camera capable of automatically stopping the car if the driver feels unwell or falls asleep.
The infrared camera installed inside the Atom cabin is equipped with independent illumination and, according to the developers, functions in any conditions. The data received from it will be processed by the electronics using special algorithms created by the Atom team. By analyzing facial features, facial expressions, and gaze direction, the system will be able to determine the driver's level of attentiveness while operating the vehicle.
The system will not be triggered by random circumstances, such as a single yawn. A warning will be initiated only if persistent signs of fatigue are detected. In that case, the system will first display a warning on the screen, followed by audio and visual signals. In critical situations, the safety system will automatically stop the electric car.
