More than 300 unmanned trucks are planned to be launched on Russian roads by 2028. This was announced by the head of the Ministry of Transport, Andrey Nikitin.
Freight transport will be a priority.
Currently, more than 90 highly automated trucks are operating on the roads, and their number is planned to be increased to 111 in 2026 and to 313 by 2028.
Currently, such trucks are used on the M-11 Neva and Moscow Ring Road highways. Next year, they are expected to be launched on the M-12 Vostok highway.
According to Andrey Nikitin, it is effective to introduce unmanned transport on closed routes with predictable conditions, and not in large cities with high traffic levels.
In October 2025, it was reported that infrastructure is planned to be formed for the new type of transport. By the end of 2026, the introduction of a system of digital twins for the movement of highly automated trucks is expected (including the M-12 Vostok highway).
