At a meeting chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Vitaly Savelyev, an action plan was approved for the introduction of highly automated vehicles of the 5th level on public roads.
The roadmap includes the formation of a regulatory framework, the development and testing of 5th level automation vehicles, as well as the development of a concept for the development of the freight market using unmanned vehicles until 2035.
It is worth noting that 90 unmanned trucks of the 3rd level of automation are already operating on public roads, in which the car completely controls the movement, but may ask the driver to take control. Level 5 automation implies complete autonomy, in which human participation is not required.
As part of the development of unmanned cargo traffic, a transport infrastructure will also be formed, including the opening of new routes for unmanned trucks. By the end of 2026, a system of digital twins will be created and put into operation for the movement of highly automated vehicles, including the M-12 Vostok highway.
The creation and testing of a prototype unmanned truck of the 5th level of automation is scheduled for 2026.
