Scammers are increasingly faking voices and videos using AI

Victims transfer money, thinking it's a request from relatives or bank employees

Scammers have started using neural networks to create text, visual, and audiovisual content in order to convince victims to transfer money or reveal personal data under the guise of loved ones or trusted individuals. This was reported by the official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, Irina Volk.

According to her, generative models allow creating plausible content that is perceived by victims as genuine. Attackers can impersonate relatives, bank employees, representatives of government agencies, or public figures.

Volk gave an example: an unknown person gained access to someone else's account in a foreign messenger and used a neural network to generate an audio message with the voice of the account owner. The recipient, deciding that the request came from his sister, transferred 35 thousand rubles through the fast payment system. The money ended up with scammers.
