Sberbank Warns of New Callback Scam

Victims dial the numbers of fraudsters themselves

Fraudsters have started using a callback scam after restrictions were imposed on calls in messengers, Sberbank Deputy Chairman of the Board Stanislav Kuznetsov told RIA Novosti.

The victim dials the fraudster's number themselves after receiving messages with allegedly real situations requiring clarification or a call back. Kuznetsov noted that the bank is successfully preventing such attacks.

According to the Deputy Chairman of the Board of Sberbank, the government has created the "Antifrod" state platform, which brings together government agencies, banks, telecom operators and other organizations to combat cyber fraud. The platform allows real-time exchange of information about fraud attempts.

Currently, "Antifrod" is operating in pilot mode. Full-scale launch is scheduled for March 1, 2026.

Kuznetsov emphasized that the market has cybersecurity standards and tools, and many companies are developing their own anti-fraud technologies and services that are ahead of foreign counterparts. He also noted a decrease in the amount of theft from Russians and expects a further slowdown in the first half of the year thanks to new laws.
