Russian engineers have developed a new fiber optic module for strike drones with a range of 65 km. This was reported by the Telegram channel «Русское оружие».
For the first time in the history of fiber optic drones, their range has reached a level allowing FPV drones to match Western guided rocket-assisted projectiles in this indicator. This refers to the M982 Excalibur Block IA-2 and Vulcano with a range of 60 and 70 km, respectively.
It should be noted that previously the maximum range of fiber optic drones was limited to 40 km due to the technical capabilities of the useful volume of the coil. For example, the drone «Князь Вандал Новгородский» is limited to a radius of 25 km.
The main advantage of using fiber optics is its high noise immunity and signal stability, which is important in conditions of active suppression of electronic warfare.
