Russian engineers have developed a new fiber optic module for strike drones with a range of 65 km, according to the Telegram channel "Russian Weaponry."
For the first time in the history of fiber optic drones, their range has reached a level allowing FPV drones to match Western guided rocket-assisted projectiles in this regard. This refers to the M982 Excalibur Block IA-2 and Vulcano with ranges of 60 and 70 km, respectively.
It should be noted that previously, the maximum range of fiber optic drones was limited to 40 km due to technical limitations in the useful volume of the coil. For example, the drone "Knyaz Vandal Novgorodsky" is limited to a range of 25 km.
The main advantage of using fiber optics is high noise immunity and signal stability, which is important in conditions of active electronic warfare suppression.
