The management of the Zaporizhzhia NPP has received a license to operate power unit No. 1 for a period of 10 years. The condition of equipment and safety systems was assessed by employees of Rostekhnadzor. This was reported by the press service of Rosenergoatom.
The solemn ceremony of issuing the license was attended by Alexey Likhachev, General Director of Rosatom, among others.
We are gradually approaching a possible change in the operating mode of power unit No. 1 — the resumption of electricity generation.
The top manager emphasized that the Zaporizhzhia NPP, as the largest nuclear power plant in Europe, will help restore the industrial potential of the region.
What does obtaining a license mean?
- the required level of nuclear and radiation safety has been confirmed
- the possibility of long-term operation of the power unit beyond the design life has been ensured
Power unit No. 1 was connected to the grid in 1984. The design service life expired in December 2015, it was extended for another 10 years until 2025. Next year, the service life of power unit No. 2 expires.
