Russia Earned $6 Billion on T-90S Tank Supplies to India

The combat vehicles are not exported from the republic to third countries

The Russian military-industrial complex (MIC) has earned up to six billion dollars on the supply of advanced T-90S series tanks to India. This data was provided by Ivan Grachev, Chief Researcher at the Central Economics and Mathematics Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

According to him, one unit costs up to five million dollars. Initially, the parties cooperated directly on direct deliveries, then moved on to the transfer of vehicle kits, and eventually production was partially localized in India.

The current estimate of the Russian military-industrial complex's profit, taking into account royalties, supplies, modernization, and maintenance, is approximately $4-6 billion for the entire sales period. This is a good result.

Grachev clarified that key elements, in particular engines, are supplied from Russia. About 2,000 of these tanks were made in India, and they are not exported to third countries. At the same time, according to the scientist, there are no problems with intellectual property for key elements.

It is known that the T-90S is equipped with a 125-mm smoothbore gun with a firing range of up to 5 km. The hull of the combat vehicle is protected by multi-layer armor with "Kontakt-5" dynamic protection, and engines with a capacity of 1000 hp accelerate the tank to 70 km/h.
