Lun ekranoplan to be touched: 3D model of the "Caspian Monster" to be recreated for the blind

Инженеры из Дагестана разрабатывают тактильную и аудиоверсию легендарного экраноплана

A unique inclusive project called "Digital Look of History" has been launched in Dagestan, in which students of the Dagestan State Technical University (DSTU) are creating audio-tactile 3D models of iconic objects of the region, including the legendary Soviet Lun ekranoplan. Special attention in the initiative is paid to this technical relic, which has become a symbol of the engineering genius of the Cold War era.

The team of the student design bureau "Internet of Things" recreates "Lun" with a high degree of detail: its hull, wing-screens and propulsion systems are translated into a tactilely perceptible format using 3D printing and special texturing.

To achieve historical accuracy, engineers use archival drawings, photogrammetric data and satellite images. The surface of the model imitates the metal and composite materials of the original, allowing blind users to "read" the shape and design of the device with their hands.

The project also provides for digital transformation: 3D models of "Lun" and other objects are being prepared for integration into VR environments and mobile applications with augmented reality.

"Lun" (factory number С-31, NATO codification: Utka) - Soviet strike ekranoplan-missile carrier of project 903, developed in the Central Design Bureau for SEC named after R. E. Alekseev under the leadership of V. N. Kirillovykh.
