The preserved Lun missile-carrying ekranoplan (Project 903) has been fenced off and closed to visitors. The unique exhibit, located on the coast of the Caspian Sea, can only be seen from the side.
Its development began at the Central Design Bureau for SEC named after Alekseev in the 1970s. The missile carrier was laid down in Nizhny Novgorod in 1983. Three years later, the ekranoplan was launched. It was part of the 236th division of ekranoplan ships of the Caspian Flotilla.
In 2011, it was decided to abandon Project 903 and dispose of the built copy. This is how the Lun ended up in the suburbs of Derbent, in the Arablyar village area. For a long time it was open to tourists. Later, it was decided to restrict access to the ekranoplan in order to protect it from vandals.
Characteristics of the Project 903 ship:
- Length — 73.8 m
- Height — 19.2 m
- Engines — NK-87
- Crew — 10 people
