Specialists of the Central Institute of Aviation Motors named after P. I. Baranov in the supersonic business jet project are considering placing engines not under, but above the wing in the tail section. This was announced by Andrey Kozlov, General Director of TsIAM.
According to him, in this case, the rear part of the fuselage shields the jet at a short distance from the nozzle cut.
It is difficult to explain in simple words, specialists understand what is being discussed. Noise can be reduced by increasing the bypass ratio of the engine, but this leads to a heavier overall structure. And for every percent of extra weight, the flight range is reduced.
The prospective Russian supersonic aircraft will be intended not for regular airlines, but rather for business aviation, aviation expert Roman Gusarov explained to "Pervyi Tekhnicheskiy". According to him, this project is not about an airliner the size of the Soviet Tu-144, but about an aircraft of a much smaller size.
