The MC-21 medium-range passenger aircraft project is entering the final stage of deep localization. Engineers and designers have completed a large-scale import substitution program, in which almost all key foreign components have been replaced on board the aircraft. Among the updated systems are a comprehensive control system, an innovative power supply architecture, an auxiliary power unit, as well as fuel level sensors and other critical units.
In total, about 80 foreign systems and components have been replaced by Russian analogues. As a result, the MC-21 received fully domestic avionics that meet modern aviation safety and efficiency requirements. This not only increased the technological independence of the project, but also creates the conditions for the serial production of the aircraft without regard to international sanctions.
It is important to note that two fully import-substituted aircraft are already undergoing testing. Thanks to the simultaneous participation of two MC-21 aircraft in certification tests, the certification process and commissioning will be accelerated, and it will also be possible to test various modes and configurations of new Russian systems.
