"Electrification of Linux": Rosseti switches to domestic ALT Linux

The holding company purchases licenses and technical support certificates for 400 million rubles

One of the world's largest power grid holdings, the Rosseti Group, is preparing for a large-scale transition to the Russian ALT Linux operating system. As CNews found out, the company is purchasing licenses and technical support certificates for 400 million rubles.

According to the data from the public procurement portal, the tender is placed on behalf of the subsidiary Rosseti Digital, which is responsible for the development of the corporate IT infrastructure and ensuring the information security of the holding.

The contract includes the supply of Alt Server, Alt Workstation, and Alt Domain version eleven solutions. The transfer of rights and certificates must be carried out according to the customer's requests during the term of the contract.

ALT Linux is a domestic operating system developed by Basalt SPO. It is based on the Linux kernel and certified for use in government and corporate structures. The system is actively being implemented in the energy, education, and industrial sectors as part of the technology import substitution program.

Rosseti clarifies that the purchase is aimed at increasing cyber resilience and independence from foreign software vendors. The technical specification excludes the use of equivalents: the customer requires strict compliance of the products with the parameters from the specification. In addition to licenses, the contract includes annual technical support of two levels - standard and extended.
