Новая альтернатива Android и iOS: в России создают мобильную ОС с открытым исходным кодом

In Russia, the development of a new alternative mobile operating system called AltPhone has started. The holding company "Basalt SPO", a well-known developer of the ALT Linux operating system, has registered a trademark for this system.

AltPhone will be based on open source code using the Linux kernel and components from the independent Sisyphus project repository. The operating system will be designed for mobile devices and will offer free software, which will reduce development costs compared to closed systems. Currently, the operating system is in the development stage, and specific release dates and investment details have not been disclosed. Investments in the project are expected to amount to several hundred million rubles.

A representative of "Basalt SPO" noted that AltPhone will be developed in collaboration with Russian mobile device manufacturers, although specific partners have not yet been announced.

There are already several alternative mobile operating systems in Russia, such as Aurora from Open Mobile Platforms, Rosa Mobile from STC IT ROSA, Astra Mobile from the Astra Group, KasperskyOS from Kaspersky Lab, and Red OS M from Red Soft. Nevertheless, Android and iOS remain the dominant platforms in the market.

According to experts, the main challenges for new operating systems are ensuring a high level of security, creating convenient tools for application development (SDK), and effectively using mobile device hardware, including NFC sensors.

It is predicted that systems like Rosa Mobile and Astra Mobile could become competitive in two to three years. Of the new systems, Aurora is currently considered the most mature, installed on hundreds of thousands of devices, while KasperskyOS is still in the development stage.
