The Arctic Basin Branch of FSUE "Rosmorport" has transferred the icebreaker "Admiral Makarov" (Project R-1039, built in 1975) to the Northwest Basin Branch. The corresponding order has been signed by the state enterprise.
The icebreaker of Project R-1039 is an 11-deck steel vessel with a central superstructure and engine room.
In the spring of 2025, the vessel underwent a dock repair, which included cleaning and painting, hull inspection, and propeller repair. Currently, the main engines of the icebreaker are being repaired. The work is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2026.
"Admiral Makarov" became the 15th icebreaker in the Northwest Branch. It will escort commercial convoys and other vessels to Russian seaports in the Gulf of Finland.
