FSUE Rosmorport has abandoned plans to build two icebreakers of project 23620 due to the inability to cope with the consequences of import substitution. Domestic components turned out to be too expensive and almost doubled the final price of the vessels.
The company's CEO, Sergey Pylin, noted that they planned to replace imported equipment with Russian equipment, but the price after redesigning increased to 32 billion rubles. Initially, the cost of icebreakers was estimated at 18.5 billion.
Therefore, it was decided that we will not build icebreakers of project 23620 for the time being, we will use tugs that were built at the shipyard in Crimea with the Arc6 class.
The icebreakers were intended for operation in Arkhangelsk and the ports of the Baltic basin. They have an Icebreaker7 ice class. This would allow them to be used in the Arctic seas with ice thickness of up to 2-2.5 meters, depending on the season.
Now Rosmorport will have to be content with Arc6 class icebreaking tugs, which can break ice only 1.1-1.3 meters thick.
