Russians Spent a Record Amount on New Cars in October

Expenses reached 568 billion rubles, and their growth increased by 40%

Analysts reported a significant increase in Russian spending on the purchase of new passenger cars in October. Compared to September, spending increased by almost 40% and amounted to 568 billion rubles. "Gazprombank Autoleasing" and the analytical agency "Autostat" shared data from their research.

The total amount spent on new passenger cars turned out to be a record since November 2024. In October 2025, spending on new cars reached a maximum, which is 4.7% higher compared to the same period last year, when it amounted to 542.6 billion rubles.

The largest share continues to be occupied by Chinese cars. In October, spending on their purchase amounted to 290.9 billion rubles, increasing by 36.9% compared to the previous month. At the same time, the share of Chinese cars in the market is decreasing.

Spending on European cars amounted to 78.1 billion rubles (+34% compared to September), Japanese — 44 billion rubles (+29.9%). Interestingly, spending on cars of other brands increased much more: on American — 44.6% (up to 7.2 billion rubles), on Russian — 51.6% (up to 98 billion rubles), and on Korean — 60.3% (up to 20 billion rubles).

According to Nikolai Fomin, director of the sales department of "Gazprombank Autoleasing", sales of new passenger cars in October 2025 decreased by 3% compared to the same month in 2024, but spending on their purchase exceeded the level of the previous year by 5%, setting a new record.

In October, car sales turned out to be the highest in the last year. This is due to the entry into force on December 1 of a new recycling fee, which activated some potential buyers who decided to buy cars before they became more expensive.
