Senator Elena Afanasyeva and a group of deputies have developed a bill that prohibits foreign citizens in Russia from purchasing air guns, gas canisters, and tasers. The document was published on the website of the State Automated System "Legislative Activity."
This concerns amendments to the federal law "On Weapons" (150-FZ). Currently, migrants can purchase these items without a license.
What is the reason for the ban?
The explanatory note cites data from the Investigative Committee (IC) of Russia. From January to May 2025, the number of crimes committed by migrants exceeded 18.8 thousand (a 10% increase compared to the same period last year).
Migrants often use tear gas sprayers, tasers, and air guns when committing illegal acts. To reduce the crime rate, lawmakers want to introduce a corresponding ban.
The proposed restrictions are consistent and dictated by national security considerations, as well as the need to protect the rights of citizens of the Russian Federation.
Earlier, Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matvienko stated that Russia will not be a closed country. However, its migration policy should be thoughtful and consistent with national interests.
