State Duma Deputy Boyarsky: Roskomnadzor's decision on partial blocking was correct

The decision of the Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Media (Roskomnadzor) to restrict calls in Telegram and WhatsApp messengers was justified. The number of fraudulent activities using these applications has significantly decreased, said the head of the Duma Committee on Information Policy, Sergei Boyarsky.

I consider the decision absolutely correct and timely. It knocked down the wave of fraudulent activities.
Sergei Boyarsky, State Duma Deputy

According to Boyarsky, there is no such problem with the Russian messenger Max. Its "security structure is implemented differently," the deputy added.

Max has a special service that responds to user complaints. Thanks to it, "a huge number of suspicious accounts" were blocked. Boyarsky expressed hope that over time the national messenger will become completely safe for Russians.

In mid-August, Roskomnadzor began to partially restrict calls in Telegram and WhatsApp in Russia. The agency explained that attackers used these platforms to deceive Russians, involving them in subversive and terrorist activities. At the same time, the application administration ignored Roskomnadzor's requirement to take the necessary measures.
