At the "Transport of Russia" forum and exhibition in Moscow, a mockup of a new RZD open-sleeper car with longer and wider sleeping shelves was presented for the first time, reports RIA Novosti.
The transverse shelves of the new car will be 14 cm longer — up to 189.1 cm, and 3 cm wider — up to 62.7 cm. The longitudinal shelves will increase by 10 cm in length (up to 187.5 cm) and by 4 cm in width — up to 58.5 cm.
The T-size car provides 58 passenger seats instead of the standard 54. Each sleeping place is equipped with curtains, personal lamps, tables for upper and lower shelves, air ducts, and USB and 220 V sockets.
For increased convenience on long trips, two sanitary rooms and a separate shower cabin are provided.
Deputy General Director of RZD Ivan Kolesnikov previously reported that the construction of open-sleeper cars of increased size is planned for 2026. Transmashholding has already built and certified a T-size compartment car, which will begin running between Moscow and St. Petersburg in 2025. The company plans to produce open-sleeper cars of a new size.
