Experts from Perm National Research Polytechnic University (PNRPU) spoke about ways to determine the quality of gasoline at gas stations (gas stations), the university's press service reports.
A full quality check requires the use of complex laboratory equipment - a gas chromatograph. This stationary device analyzes fuel according to 20 or more key indicators.
Checking the quality of gasoline directly at a gas station is quite difficult. High-quality fuel should be absolutely transparent and contain no impurities. One of the easiest ways to check is to drip gasoline onto a sheet of plain paper. At room temperature, high-quality gasoline will evaporate within 1-3 minutes. If a greasy stain or oily residue remains after evaporation, this indicates that the gasoline has been diluted with diesel fuel or kerosene.
According to PNRPU scientists, gasoline is subject to dilution. Special additives are added to the fuel to increase the octane number. Modern manufacturers are increasingly preferring environmentally friendly components, such as alkyls, esters and alcohols. However, this process is only possible in production.
In the face of constantly rising fuel prices and increasing complaints about poor-quality gasoline, the issue of checking it becomes particularly relevant. The use of poor-quality fuel can lead to technical problems with the car and even cause traffic accidents.
