«Maxims» Installed on UAZ: 19th Century Weapons Return to the Front Against Drones

Seemingly outdated machine guns have found a new purpose

A video has appeared online showing soldiers firing from paired «Maxim» machine guns mounted in the back of a UAZ «Fermer». A mobile fire group covered positions from drone attacks, and the old weapon proved surprisingly effective in combating aerial targets.

The Hiram Maxim machine gun system was developed back in 1883. In the USSR, it was modernized in the 1930s, creating its own version of the 1910/30 model, which received water cooling and became the main heavy machine gun of the Second World War.

The rate of fire of the classic «Maxim» reaches 600 rounds/min, and the water jacket allows for prolonged firing. This is a very important advantage when repelling massive attacks by kamikaze drones.

The installation of «Maxims» on pickups has become another example of field engineering improvisation. Such mobile platforms allow you to quickly change positions and cover equipment from low-flying drones. Despite its age, the machine gun maintains high reliability and resistance to overheating.
