Information from a number of Western media outlets about the alleged malfunction of the diesel-electric submarine "Novorossiysk" of project 636.3 off the coast of France does not correspond to reality. This was stated in the press service of the Black Sea Fleet.
The fleet added that the submarine's crew is currently making a transition after completing tasks as part of the permanent operational unit of the Russian Navy (Navy) in the Mediterranean Sea.
The information disseminated by a number of media outlets about the alleged malfunction and, as a result, the emergency surfacing of the "Novorossiysk" off the coast of France does not correspond to reality.
The press service recalled that the passage of submarines through the English Channel in accordance with international rules is carried out exclusively in the surface position.
"Novorossiysk" — the first of six Russian cruisers of project 636.3, built at the Admiralty Shipyards of the United Shipbuilding Corporation for the Black Sea Fleet. All submarines of the project are armed with Kalibr-PL cruise missiles.
