At the VIII International Forum "Russian Energy Week," RusHydro, Zarubezhneft, and the government of the Kamchatka Territory signed an agreement on cooperation in the development of geothermal energy on the peninsula. The main joint project will be the construction of a geothermal power plant with a capacity of 66.5 MW called "Mutnovskaya GeoPP-2."
The agreement envisages the pooling of efforts and competencies for the implementation of promising geothermal projects, including exploration, field development, and the creation of conditions for the construction and commissioning of "Mutnovskaya GeoPP-2."
Construction of "Mutnovskaya GeoPP-2" will begin immediately after a positive investment decision is received, which will be possible thanks to the successful completion of the first phase of work. This phase includes geological exploration and subsequent design.
The new plant should become a leader in the development of geothermal energy in Russia and one of the most advanced facilities in the world in its category.
