According to the Moscow Department of Transportation, the number of accidents involving motorcyclists has decreased in the Russian capital by 15% since 2015. In 2025, the main causes of accidents remain failure to yield and violations of lane change rules.
Since the beginning of this year, 217 accidents involving motorcyclists have been recorded in Moscow due to failure to yield, and 188 incidents occurred due to lane change violations. The situation is exacerbated by speeding: 157 cases occurred for this reason. In addition, 88 accidents are related to failure to maintain a safe distance, and 40 are related to running a red light.
To improve safety, the Center for Traffic Management (TsODD) actively analyzes the places where accidents occur most often and uses this data when designing new streets. Photo and video recording systems also work to improve traffic safety.
The head of the Moscow Department of Transportation, Maxim Liksutov, urges motorcyclists to prepare their bikes for the winter period and to refrain from riding them in winter.
