Hypersonic weapons are not suitable for everyday use; there are other, more common, strike capabilities for hitting the most important targets. This opinion was expressed by Lieutenant Colonel (Ret.), advisor to the Russian Academy of Rocket and Artillery Sciences, Oleg Ivannikov.
According to him, high-precision weapons are too expensive to produce. Therefore, in the event of the need to carry out group strikes, the Oreshnik medium-range ballistic missile (MRBM) will come in handy, Ivannikov believes.
The academy advisor also drew attention to the fact that in the confrontation with the same hypersonic weapons, Russian air defense systems (air defense) are the best in the world.
In terms of its technical equipment and functionality, the multi-tiered system surpasses any air defense in all countries of the world, including the notorious Iron Dome.
Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the appearance of new types of weapons in the Russian army the day before, which are currently "being finalized". It was suggested online that this could include the new Burevestnik missile.
It is known from open sources about three main hypersonic missiles in service with Russia: the Avangard intercontinental ballistic missile, the Kinzhal air-launched hypersonic air-to-surface missile, and the 3M22 Zircon anti-ship missile.
