Amendments have been made to the legislation on advertising and the functioning of "Roscosmos", approved by Russian President Vladimir Putin. According to the new law, the procedure for placing advertising materials on spacecraft, including launch vehicles and satellites, as well as the conditions for this advertising, are now regulated.
Thanks to this, the budget may receive up to 200 million rubles per year and another up to 5 million rubles from advertising on infrastructure facilities, according to the explanatory note to the bill in the State Duma.
In addition, the rights of Roscosmos are specified in the provision of services for placing advertising on space objects owned by the state corporation and organizing the placement of advertising on space objects that are federal property.
It is noted that in the 1990s-2000s, advertising was already used in Russian cosmonautics. However, it began to be limited after the launch of the International Space Station in 1998. Then Roscosmos and NASA agreed to limit direct advertising on equipment and gear to ensure a neutral scientific image of the project.
