The Russian market for new passenger cars in August 2025 showed mixed dynamics. Total sales amounted to about 122,000 vehicles, which is 18% less than a year earlier, but 1% more than in July.
The main surprise was Xcite, which increased sales by 2.8 times in a year, an absolute record among all brands. Compared to July, the growth was 19%, which shows a slowdown, but is still impressive. Previously, Xcite announced the launch of its crossovers on the "VTB Auto" platform, which also stimulates demand.
Lada remains the leader in sales volume with a share of 23% and 27,600 vehicles sold, although its sales fell by 28.4% year-on-year. Chinese brands continue to strengthen their positions: Haval took second place with 13% of the market and 16,000 vehicles, Chery - 9% (about 11,100), Geely - 7% (8,700), Belgee - 6% (7,800), showing an increase of 2.2 times in a year.
The growth in sales of Xcite and other Chinese brands is partly due to discount programs and subsidized loans, which stimulated consumers. At the same time, BMW and Toyota showed high performance, but a significant part of the cars went to individuals; from November 1, the sales channel through private buyers will be limited due to new recycling fee rates, which may affect the dynamics.
