In the 1990s, Russia was developing a new tank "Object 640" under the name "Black Eagle". The combat vehicle provided a new level of crew protection, the Rostec State Corporation said.
The "Black Eagle" was the result of work on a deep modernization of the Soviet T-80U tank. The design bureau of the Omsk Transport Engineering Plant (Omsktransmash) was to ensure a significant increase in mobility, protection and combat effectiveness.
A feature of the machine is the division into sealed compartments, including the fighting compartment, the fuel compartment and the control compartment. Also, the "Object 640" in the aft niche of the turret received a removable transport and loading module.
According to the designers, such a turret module-container significantly increased the crew's chance of survival and reduced irretrievable tank losses.
The designers also reduced the likelihood of losing the tank due to fire by isolating the fuel tanks. A new fire control system with multifunctional control panels for the commander and gunner, a dynamic protection system and an active counteraction system of the "Afghanit" type were installed on the tank.
An experienced "Black Eagle" was shown in 1997, but the car never became serial. It is believed that the developments on the "Black Eagle" formed the basis of the T-14 "Armata" tank.
Earlier www1.ru reported that MiG-31BM interceptors were used in tandem with Tu-22M3 bombers.
