In the period from September 12 to 16, 2025, large-scale strategic exercises under the code name "Zapad-2025" took place on the territory of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus, as well as in the marine areas of two bodies of water. In these maneuvers, in addition to the armed forces of the two countries, military contingents from a number of partner states took part.
In one episode of the exercises, the special drone aviation unit "Varyag" repelled a massive drone strike by a mock enemy using FPV interceptors.
Through the integrated use of radar stations, FPV interceptor drones, fixed-wing UAVs, and electronic warfare equipment, the specialists of the "Varyag" unit effectively completed the tasks of gaining dominance in the small and medium airspace.
Mobile fire teams and observation posts were involved in intercepting enemy drones.
On the final day of the exercises, the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin visited an exhibition of military and special equipment at the Mulino training ground. There, 400 samples from 65 manufacturers were presented.
