A strong magnetic storm of a level close to G3 is observed on Earth. This was reported by the Solar Astronomy Laboratory of IKI and ISZF.
The event was recorded against the background of a noticeable increase in the speed of the solar wind. The Earth has entered the zone of action of a large coronal hole, the border of which our planet crossed yesterday around midnight.
The event was generally predicted a few days ago. But the strength of the current storm was unexpected and significantly exceeds the calculations. Maximum levels of about G1 were expected.
Initially, it was expected that the total duration of the deterioration of the geomagnetic situation would be at least 4-6 days, and this forecast remains in force at present. The complete normalization of the situation in near-Earth space will occur no earlier than Thursday-Friday of this week.
The impact of coronal holes is characterized by high instability and usually consists of a series of separate bursts lasting several hours. At the moment, there is no objective mathematical assessment of the course of the current storm, as the event clearly falls out of the initial forecasts. It is assumed that the local current surge will end in the next 6-9 hours.
Earlier www1.ru reported that named the timing of the completion of powerful magnetic storms on Earth.
