The works are aimed at ensuring a navigable depth of 4 meters between Nizhny Novgorod and Gorodets, which will increase the capacity of the hydraulic structure from 3.6 million tons to 20 million tons annually. This will improve the accessibility of the cities of the Middle Volga for cruise ships from Moscow and St. Petersburg, contributing to the development of domestic water tourism. The facility involves 486 workers and 86 pieces of equipment, including watercraft. Work is carried out around the clock in three shifts without stopping navigation, which is carried out through chamber No. 16.

Currently, about 30% of the work has been completed on driving sheet piles for the excavation pit of chamber 15A and protective dam No. 10. Temporary structures are being installed. This year, dredging works are also planned on the approach channel (1.5 km) and the main fairway from Gorodets to Balakhna (40 km).

An interdepartmental commission with the participation of Rosmorrechflot inspected the hydraulic structure. Locks, dams and dikes function without defects, ensuring ship passage and backwater level in accordance with the norms.

The project to modernize the Gorodetsky hydraulic structure is being implemented as part of the Russian water transport development program.
