Auroras are expected over the European part of Russia today, September 2, which can be observed from 22:00 to 2:00–3:00 Moscow time. The first strong peak is expected at 20:50–21:00 Moscow time. This is reported by the Solar Astronomy Laboratory of IKI and ISZF SB RAS.
Intense auroras are associated with a rapid change in the sign of the interplanetary magnetic field and a high solar wind speed, which creates a bright auroral oval.
Unlike the previous night, when the light phenomenon was visible only in the northwest, today it will be visible in a larger area, including the central and western regions.
Current conditions are considered among the best in the last three months. For observation, it is recommended to choose places away from city lights with an open view of the northern horizon. Clear weather and the absence of clouds significantly increase the chances of seeing the aurora.
