On the Rails of Import Substitution: Ural Locomotives Receives a Loan of 1 Billion Rubles

All manufactured equipment will consist entirely of domestic components and materials

The Industrial Development Fund (IDF) has provided a concessional loan of 1 billion rubles to Ural Locomotives (part of the Sinara Group). The agreement was signed on August 14 at the International Railway Salon "PRO//Motion.EXPO". The funds will be used to develop production in Verkhnyaya Pyshma (Sverdlovsk Region).

The loan is provided at 3% per annum for the implementation of a project with a total budget of 2 billion rubles. The funds will be used to purchase high-tech equipment, including robotic welding systems and assembly and welding stands. Currently, the plant has already prepared production sites for its installation.

As part of the project, Ural Locomotives will launch serial production of new models of freight electric locomotives: Orlets for alternating current, Malachite for direct current, and two-system Amethyst. The second direction of the project will be the manufacture of four-axle bogies for main-line diesel locomotives.

All manufactured equipment will consist entirely of domestic components and materials. The new line of locomotives features increased load capacity and reliability compared to previous generations.

The new locomotives are designed to operate on the Eastern Railway Polygon of Russia, including the BAM and Trans-Siberian Railway, and will increase their carrying capacity. According to the director of the IDF, Roman Petrutsa, this project became the anniversary — the two thousandth in a row for the fund since its creation.
