With Increased Load Capacity and a Russian Engine: The New 2ES11 "Orlets" Electric Locomotive Showcased at the Exhibition in St. Petersburg

The locomotive assembly will be completed in August 2025

"Ural Locomotives" presented the new 2ES11 "Orlets" AC main freight electric locomotive at the "PRO//Motion.Expo" exhibition.

The electric locomotive assembly is scheduled to be completed in August 2025. Certification tests should be completed by the end of the year.

The creation of the 2ES11 "Orlets" locomotive became possible thanks to the systematic work done in the design and production of the 3ES8 "Malachite" DC freight electric locomotive. This machine was the first model in the line of the new domestic platform of main electric locomotives with asynchronous drive, developed by "Ural Locomotives" in close cooperation with a number of Russian enterprises. The project started in 2020, and already in 2023, the electric locomotive was certified and transferred to trial operation on the Oktyabrskaya Railway.

The electric locomotive is capable of hauling up to 7100 tons in a two-section configuration and up to 9000 tons in a three-section configuration. Its weight is 200 tons, and its maximum speed reaches 120 km/h. The locomotive's power is 8000 kW.

The "Orlets" is equipped with a domestic asynchronous traction motor. The locomotive's load capacity exceeds its counterparts by 42%.

Earlier, www1.ru reported that the new double-decker train "Burevestnik" will appear in Russia.
