The Rosel holding (part of Rostec) is scaling up the serial production of domestic avalanche photodiodes (APDs). Currently, these sensors are produced in small batches.
Avalanche photodiodes are special highly sensitive sensors that convert light into electric current. Photons of light are accelerated by an electric field and "knock out" more and more electrons.
APDs are used where it is necessary to detect very weak radiation - in optical communication, laser rangefinding, lidars, and optical tomographs.
Rosel Holding produces 2 types of photodiodes:
- Silicon avalanche photodiodes in the visible and near-IR ranges.
- InGaAs APDs operate in the near and shortwave IR ranges
The first type of photodiode is used for laser control and calibration, in optical tomography and spectroscopy, and quantum cryptography systems. The second is an important element for spectral analysis, remote sensing systems, and quantum computers.
As emphasized in the Rostec press service, APDs from Rosel are not inferior in their characteristics to Western samples.
