The fourth flare of the penultimate power class in a day was recorded on the Sun on August 26, the Institute of Applied Geophysics reported.
According to experts, a flare M1.0 lasting 45 minutes was registered at 17:07 Moscow time. Earlier that day, events of classes M3.3, M1.3 and M4.5 were observed.
Scientists from the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Solar-Terrestrial Physics Institute of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences note an increase in solar activity and suggest the appearance of flares of the maximum level — class X.
Solar flares are divided into five categories: A, B, C, M and X, where each subsequent one indicates a tenfold increase in the power of X-ray radiation. Such phenomena can be accompanied by plasma ejections that can cause magnetic storms when they reach Earth.
